How fee rules combine

Every fee has its own conditions, and you choose how they combine:

  • All conditions (AND). The fee applies only when every condition matches. Use this for precise targeting, for example: product tagged deposit AND customer in Germany.
  • Any condition (OR). The fee applies when at least one condition matches. Use this for alternatives, for example: collection is Beverages OR product type is Drinks.
  • Negative rules. Rules like is not one of and does not contain require that nothing in the order matches. A fee with the condition "discount code is not one of FEEFREE" is waived as soon as that code is applied. See the waiver recipes.
  • Per-product fees always use AND and need at least one product condition (tag, collection, type, SKU, and so on). The product conditions select which items are charged; any cart or customer conditions gate whether the fee applies at all.
  • Multiple fees stack. Each published fee is evaluated on its own, so a Pfand deposit and a small order surcharge can both apply to the same order, each as its own line item.
