Colorado charges 0.31 USD on every retail delivery of taxable goods to a Colorado address (since July 1, 2026). On Shopify, model it as a fixed, non-taxable cart fee titled "Retail Delivery Fees", limited to customer state CO and excluding gift-card-only carts. FlexiFees adds it once per order, itemized as the state requires.

Who must collect it

  • Retailers delivering taxable goods by motor vehicle to Colorado addresses, including via carriers like UPS and FedEx.
  • Exempt: businesses with $500,000 or less of prior-year retail sales in Colorado. If that is you, you may choose not to collect.
  • Retailers may pay the fee themselves instead of charging it; if you charge it, it must appear separately on the receipt, which is exactly what a fee line item does.
Buy It Now warning. This is a mandatory fee. Enable the Buy Now guard so express checkout cannot produce a Colorado order without the fee.
Not tax or legal advice. Confirm your registration and filing duties (form DR 1786) with the Colorado Department of Revenue or your tax advisor.
