Tire fees on Shopify
Last updated: July 18, 2026 · CA rate per CDTFA
California charges 1.75 USD per new tire, itemized on the invoice; most other states levy their own per-tire disposal or waste fees. On Shopify, give tires the product type Tires and create one fixed per-product fee per state, limited by the customer state condition. The fee multiplies per tire and shows as its own line.
The rule in FlexiFees (California)
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Fee title | California Tire Fee |
| Calculation | Fixed amount, per product fee |
| Amount | 1.75 USD per tire |
| SKU | TIRE-CA |
| Conditions (match all) | Product type is one of Tires · Customer state is one of CA |
Getting the per-tire math right
- Sold as singles: quantity 4 in the cart charges 4 × 1.75, automatically.
- Sold as sets: if one product is a 4-tire set, create a separate fee of 7.00 USD for the set products (tag them tire-set-4), so the fee still matches the tire count.
Other state tire fees
Most states charge a tire fee at retail, typically 0.25 to 5.00 USD per tire, under names like waste tire fee, scrap tire fee, or tire recycling fee. The pattern is always the same rule with a different amount and state code. Verify each state's current rate and whether online sellers must collect it before publishing.
Not tax or legal advice. The California Tire Fee has its own CDTFA registration and filing; confirm your obligations before collecting.
