Bulk order packing fees on Shopify
Last updated: July 18, 2026
Very large orders need extra boxes, void fill, and pallet time. Charge it with a fixed cart fee gated by total cart quantity (20 or more items), or, for case-packed products like wine, a per-product fee gated by line quantity (6 or more of the same bottle). Small orders never see it.
The rules in FlexiFees
| Pattern | Fee | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Whole-cart bulk | Fixed cart fee, 6.00, "Packing materials" | Total quantity in the cart ≥ 20 |
| Case-packing one product | Fixed per-product fee, 3.00, "Case packing" | Line quantity ≥ 6 + a product condition (for example type Wine) |
The two quantity conditions are different tools: total quantity counts everything in the cart, line quantity counts one line, and the per-product scope requires a product condition to say which lines qualify.
Refinements
- Stepped schedule: one fee at ≥ 20 items, a second at ≥ 50; both publish and stack for a rising total.
- Physical scaling: for weight-driven packing cost, the per-kg surcharge is the cleaner model.
- Wholesale carve-out: exempt tagged accounts with a negative customer tag condition.
