Bulk goods handling fee by weight
Last updated: September 23, 2026
For heavy bulk goods such as soil, mulch or fertilizer, charge handling by weight on those products only: a per-product Per weight fee of, for example, 0.15 per kilogram, limited to the right categories. Four 25 kg bags pay 15.00, while light items in the same cart pay nothing.

Worked examples

|---|---|---|
| 4 × 25 kg potting soil | 0.15 × 25 × 4 | 15.00 |
| 10 × 25 kg soil + a trowel | 0.15 × 25 × 10 = 37.50, capped by max 25.00; the trowel is not in the categories | 25.00 |
| Only a trowel | no matching product | no fee |
Variants
- Per pound: pick per pound next to the rate; product weights in any unit are converted.
- Per started 10 kg: a per-product formula such as
1.50 * ceil(weight_kg / 10) * qtycharges 1.50 for every started 10 kg of each item. - No categories set? Use a collection, product type or tag condition instead.
- The whole cart above a weight: see the heavy order surcharge.
Good to know
- The fee reads the weight on each variant; a variant without a weight counts as 0.
- On a per-product fee, the maximum applies to the fee's total, not to each product.
- The product category condition needs the Category field set on your products.
The first cart with a new amount. Calculated fees produce amounts Shopify has not seen before. The first time a new amount appears, Shopify can take a few seconds, occasionally up to about a minute, to accept the fee line; FlexiFees retries automatically and the same amount is instant afterwards.
