International order handling fee on Shopify
Last updated: July 18, 2026
Export orders carry costs domestic ones do not: customs declarations, commercial invoices, extra support. Recover them with a fixed cart fee whose condition is customer country is not one of your home markets. Every order shipped abroad then carries one labeled handling line, and domestic customers never see it.
The rule in FlexiFees
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Fee title | International order handling |
| Calculation | Fixed amount, cart fee |
| Amount | Your handling cost, for example 4.90 |
| SKU | INTL |
| Condition | Customer country is not one of US, CA |
This is the negative rule pattern: the fee applies when the country does not match your list. Guests are matched by the cart's shipping address or detected country.
Refinements
- Regional tiers: one fee for EU destinations, a higher one for everywhere else, each with its own country list.
- Waive above a basket size: add cart subtotal is less than or equal to 150, so large export orders ship without the fee.
- Market-based alternative: if you run Shopify Markets, condition on the market instead of country lists.
